These are just some more pictures as evidence that we were filming; here is when we were writing The birds &the magicians on the sand.

CD Sleeve Ideas

We have been asked to individually design our own CD Sleeve of how we want our cover to look like, so all the group members will have different ideas, I have sketched out four different CD Sleeves, but they are very similar to each other, also as we already have taken our photos we do have an idea of how we wanted it to look like fitting in with our chosen genre.

As you can see here below are the fours sketches I have produced.

Postmodernism

We have decided on what our postmodern scene is going to be, we also added it to the filming we did last week.

Its from the film the "400 blows", it’s about a misunderstood young adolescent who left without attention, delves into a life of petty crime.

We have chosen to include the end part of the film when the boy runs across the beach and then turns around, we just added when he turns back and looks at the camera. this is

One of the reasons we have chosen this film as it was also filmed on the beach, and its very straightforward idea.

However not many people would be able to recognise our postmodern shot, because this film is quite old, especially our group age might not know it. It’s back from the 1960 when it got released into the cinemas.

Continue Editing

In today's lesson we just continued editing our video we also added the chosen band’s song to it "Spread your wings".

We have chosen the good parts, however we still have about 2/3 minutes worth of shooting the rest of our video, as the song we have chosen isn’t short. so we spoke to one of our band members today and they said they will and try to sort out when or where we can meet up with them to film them practising, so we could have some of those shots added into our video.

Unfortunately  she said that one of the band members wont be able to do it, as he will be on holiday, however they have two guitarist so well still be able to film one of them.
I have also designed some CD Sleeves, some ideas I had on my mind, and think that will look good, but we still need to make a final group decision on which one and how to represent it. However we still got plenty of time for that.

Music Video Analysis 3

My 3rd chosen music video I’m going to analysis is Psychosocial by Slipknot.

Genre: Metal/Rock

Narrative/performance: Doesn’t contain any narrative only performance of the band, even thought it does change to different scenes during the video.

Shots: Lot of close up shots, as in most of slipknot's music videos, of the instruments and the masks they are wearing. There was a low angle at the drummer representing him to be the leader/Godlike. Then change of scenery to dead animal, a bear, this fits in with their genre ghostly like. Also the music video was very jumpy,
Some parts very blurry.
It does really represents the genre thought, the fire the masks, the dead animal, the location some sort of open space.

Mise en Scene: their outfits match the theme dark coloured jackets, long black hair, and the masks, Slipknot is also known to wear masks in every Music Video of theirs its like a logo of theirs, how they stand out from the other bands, got their own original thing.

Personal Opinion: its cleverly made matches its genre, however its not one of my preferred genre's.

Music Video Analysis 2

The second music video I have chosen to analyse is 'T-shirt’ by Shontelle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb-Vfe61W6A

Genre: R&B

Narrative/Performance: It contains quite a lot of narrative, of her getting off the car close up shot of her shoes, putting on make up, very stereotypical woman.

A male audience may become a lot more interested in the music video that she sings due to an interest of the Singer physical appearance.

It tells the story that she misses her boyfriends he texting her and sending her letters.

Mise en Scene: her body is exposed, very stereotypical for woman in R&B Music Video, short dresses when she went out with her girls; at home she is relaxing in just a simple t-shirt, again very revealing.

The way she is represented in the camera is very sexual, her movements on the sofa not really aimed at young age group; however she still gets seen as a role model by some younger girls.

Shots: Contains quite a lot of close ups, of her phone, he mirror looking at her lips and her shoes when she’s getting off the car, all those props represent a stereotypical woman.

Music Video Analysis 1

The Kooks-She Moves In Her Own Way

This is the music video for the kooks song she moves in her own way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pquhYpGHrlw&feature=player_embedded

Genre:
Indie/Rock

Narrative or Performance
This music video is both performance and narrative, however the focus is on the narrative as there isn't a structured performance. The narrative element is them touring in their bus and almost following their lives on tour. They get out at different places (beach, nightclub etc) and get filmed enjoying themselves.

Conventions
This music video follows the typical conventions of the indie genre. This video is very relaxed and shows the band off to be having fun pure and simple. The film has a light brown colouring to it which is typical of a lot of indie videos.

The band is represented in the very stereotypical indie genre style, as in what they are wearing the skinny rolled up jeans, the curly, messy hair. And some of the band members wearing the blues style hat.
If I would have to watch the video without the music I would tight away link it with the right lyrics as I know in the way they are dressed up.

Editing

Today we imported our videos onto the Mac and started editing, we also showed our teachers of what we have accomplished, and she was very pleased with the results.

We also started thinking of our poster and CD Sleeve as we just need to pick out the right picture for it.

So far am quite happy of what we have done, just hope it will continue positively

Below are some of the pictures we have taken, and thought to be for our poster/CD Sleeve.

1st Day of Filming

Weston Beach.

Yesterday was our first day of filming we went down to Weston Super-Mare Beach, to get some of our shots on the beach while the sunset. It went quite well actually, we also took some photos for our CD Sleeve and our Poster.

We included some different angles including a Birdseye, we also had some tracking when the girl ran across the beach. We also included some tilts while we moved up from the girl up to the birds. We built-in our postmodern element part in one of the shots, as a poster of the band with a black tape across, where we tried convey to the audience that the band (The Bird &The Magicians)broke up. We have also repeated this as writing the bands name onto the sand and let the waves take the writing away.

Hopefully next lesson we will upload the shots onto our Mac’s and start to edit, and add the song to the video and see if it matches up.

Here are some of the pictures as evidence that we were there and filmed it.

Band Questionnairre

When we chose our band we decided to conduct an interview to see what there representations of the band were. This would then allow us to get there connotations in and the connotations of the genre. We did this because as well as getting a good grade we wanted them to have a music video that they wanted to show off as their own. We also thought that they could put it on their MySpace. on the video below they do give slightly different answers to the ones I have at the bottom as the answers I have written down they sent to me by email.

Final Decision

We have decided on what lyrics we wanted to do
"Spread your wings"

We have finished our storyboard and hopefully we are off to film next Tuesday, as planned.

<< This is the song we have chosen.

We also made a shooting schedule for what or who is going to film what or when, and what angles etc.
